Volunteer registration lets volunteers sign up before the count so you know who’s participating, have verified contact info, and can pre-assign them to teams. It’s available on the sophisticated plan.
What it’s used for
- Collecting volunteer contact info in one place before the count
- Verifying phone numbers via SMS
- Pre-assigning volunteers to specific teams so they see the right area on their map
- Downloading the full volunteer list — useful for pre-count emails or imports into other software
The registration form
Hyperion preloads a default form that asks for first name, last name, and email. You can add or customize questions in the survey form editor like any other form.
Enabling it on a PIT count
When creating a PIT count, reference the volunteer registration form (and optionally your teams). Share the survey code with volunteers the usual way.
The volunteer experience
- They enter the survey code on pitcounter.com
- They enter their phone number and a verification code sent by SMS
- They fill out the registration form
- They wait — until you switch the count to training or live mode, they’re registered but can’t submit surveys
Once training mode is on, they refresh and can start surveying. If you pre-assigned them to a team, they’ll see that team’s name and its boundary on their map (they can’t change it).
Managing volunteers
The Volunteers tab lists everyone who has registered. From there you can pre-assign teams or download the full list.
